Includes tobacco and store records, 1816-60, of mercantile activities in southwest Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and southern Ohio, and material on tobacco marketing, the Kanawha salt works, politics, life at the University of Virginia in 1848, and other matters. Persons represented include Charles J., Ella R., and W.R. Clement and Joseph, Pleasant, Randolph, and Washington Dickinson. The papers are related to the library's Dickinson family papers (38-176).
